Our story

Desma Designs Jewellery is the jewellery making workshop and showroom of Goldsmith and Gemmologist Desma Noble, situated in Croydon Melbourne.  Desma has pursued her passion for designing and handmaking exquisite quality jewellery since she began a traditional jewellery making apprenticeship in 1981.

Desma and her team of jewellers and gemmologists offer personal attention and specialise in designing and handcrafting beautiful bespoke jewellery.

A specialty of the studio is to remodel pre-loved jewellery into a new design, often reflecting a new beginning or the individual style of the wearer. They love to make personal connections and then design unique heirlooms of the future.

Repairs, alterations and restoration on existing jewellery, are welcome and treated with love and respect to restore their former glory.

The Journey

For some years Desma worked for other leading Melbourne jewellers, then at her home workshop honing her skills. Then in 2014 Desma pursued her dream to open her own Studio at McAdam square, Croydon. Here she could personally design and handcraft unique jewellery of outstanding quality to her loyal clients.

The Studio’s reputation for outstanding personal service and consistently classy jewellery of exceptional quality has led to rapid growth. We are now, proudly a team of 5 highly trained jewellers and gemmologists.

Sharing the rare and ancient skills of goldsmithing is something Desma holds dear to her heart. She taught in the Jewellery Department at Melbourne Polytechnic (formerly NMIT) for fourteen years on a parttime basis and still treasures her memories.

A proud Fellow of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia and currently the National President, Desma strongly believes in the tradition of marking precious metal works with metal purity marks as well as s individual makers marks. This marking system identifies makers, provides assurance of purity and provenance of the jewellery that proudly bears the marks.
